Reduce, Reuse and Recycle: IT Resources Conservation Tips

  • Do less on your computer while doing more with your computer. Reduce your processor cycles, memory and storage usage by choosing efficient applications and file formats. Using ethernet connections instead of wireless ones, physical instead of virtual memory, cloudware, and specialized instead of all-purpose software can improve your workstation's performance.
  • Use an old browser tab for a new task. Same with file folders. When you want to add something new and useful, it's always nice to remove something old and useless at the same time.
  • Publishing to the 'net and linking to or otherwise referencing other works reduces global information duplication, so check to see if an acceptable version of any material is freely available for you to reference before creating redundant data.
  • If you're offering an improvement of existing material, offer your edit or a reworked version with direct accreditation of the original material.
